Spring Sports Rundown

The spring season is well underway here at Creek, and several new sports have begun their 2021 seasons, in hopes of making this season one to remember. Baseball and softball are currently amidst their 12 game district season having already played five games each. Softball remains undefeated thus far into their district play, starting off strong for what is expected to be an exceptional season for the Lady Cougars. Baseball sits at 2-3 for their first 5 games in district, winning their first two games against Northbrook, but falling short in the next three consecutive games.
Girls’ soccer just wrapped up an exceptional district season finishing 11-4 at the end of their season, and making it a total of two rounds into the playoffs. However, the girls were eliminated by Seven Lakes on Tuesday, March 30th in the second round.
Boys and girls track and field have both concluded their district run, ending with several boy and girl area finalists throughout multiple events. In girls track, the finalists going to area are Leomarys Figueredo (discus), Denette Haygood (long jump and 100m hurdles), along with those on the 4×1 team: Bell, Camarillo, Hampton, and Moten. The boys’ track area qualifiers consisted of Ben Countiss (1600 meter) Jordyn Williams (300m hurdles) Gorman Granston (400m dash) and Ciaus Parris (Shot Put), along with the 4×4 relay team (Cummings, Prakhin, Williams, Granston). The athletes who made it to area will compete in their events in the area meet April 18th.
The sports still in season only have a few weeks left of game time before the school year ends and the offseason begins. Baseball and softball will promptly finish their district games in hopes of making the playoffs for a shot at winning districts before their time is up, and track and field only has a few runners left to compete in the area finals before their season comes to an end as well. Despite spring coming to a close, there is still a lot of competition left to be had, and our athletes will continue to battle for their title until the very end.
