Theater hosts food drive for kids in need

The Cy Creek Theater Program hosted a “Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat” food drive for canned foods and other non-perishable items during the month of October, supervised by Timothy Estelle and Chloe Shroff. Later, Estelle and Shroff were pied in the auditorium to celebrate the fundraising efforts.
“A big part of what we do is giving back to our community; it’s one of our pillars,” Shroff said. “It’s all about empathy and being empathic to people, just how we are empathic to the characters we play on stage. We need to be empathic to the needs of our community and the people around us we see day to day.”
Shroff recalls that hunger can be a serious challenge that some students are associated with everyday. The Thespian Theatre Association honor society, the theater staff, and the Cy Creek community came together to resolve this issue.
Creek has taken action against this obstacle for many years by offering free meals for students who qualify. Similarly, theater has targeted hunger and other social issues by hosting national and local fundraisers since 1929.
Junior theater student Gage Campbell participated in the fundraising efforts.
“I definitely think a lot of students will benefit from this because it will teach fundraising fundamentals as well as just giving back to the community, which is a good feeling in general,” Campbell said. “It’s great that we have so many students contributing to this fundraiser. We really appreciate it, we are so thankful, and we really hope they can give back any way they can in the future.”
