This year Future Farmers of America (FFA) received the opportunity to showcase their animals and compete at this year’s Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo which will be held February 25 through March 17.

Each year a few members of FFA are chosen to entertain the audience before the performer arrives on stage. Students of FFA earned the opportunity of representing Cy Creek in chosen events. These events include bull riding, barrel racing, bronc back riding, and more that occur before the concert begins.

Senior FFA member, Megan Miller, said that she will make an appearance at the rodeo, but is having mixed emotions due to this being her last year.

“I am really sad to be honest,” Miller said. “It’s my last year and I’ve been doing this for the past 4 years, and Houston is my last show, it will be weird not showing again.”

She has a fondness for the organization that can’t replace anything. Her pig Apollo will be judged at the rodeo and if Apollo wins at auction will happen. The highest bidder will receive the pig for their own care. Miller hopes that he wins so she can put her earnings to good use.

“I would put some in saving and then put the rest towards school.” Miller said.

Sophomore Lane Kristynik and second year FFA member said that he is very appreciative that he got a call back to calf scramble March 1 and he hopes he wins the contest.

“It feels great,” Kristynik said. “It is a great opportunity for me to try and get some money towards my animals next year.”
