Free Press festival lineup announced
March 16, 2015
At 10 am CST on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, Free Press Summer Fest released the 2015 Concert Lineup for the June 6-7 festival. As usual for the event, alt-rock favorites like Weezer will share the stage with up-and-coming electronic musicians, along with various rappers.
Headliners include Skrillex, R. Kelly, Major Lazer, Tears for Fears, St Vincent, Mastodon, and Chance the Rapper. While most people know what headliner they’re dying to see, seeing the musicians at the bottom of the list can help to expand everyone’s personal music library. Here are the editor’s selections from the smaller names in the lineup.
For those who like: Washed Out
The project of American producer Scott Hansen, Tycho embodies the perfectly chill vibes of ambient music. Using samples from weather broadcasts, monotone speech or breathing, Hansen adds a unique ‘organic’ element to otherwise mechanical music.
The Mountain Goats
For those who like: Sufjan Stevens
John Darnielle, the main player in The Mountain Goats, was referred to as “America’s best non-hip-hop lyricist” by the New Yorker. Darnielle’s lyrics span classical literature, religion, art, and everyday life while offering an intimate perspective into his everyday life.
For those who like: Joyce Manor
Since releasing their album Plowing into the Field of Love in 2014, iceage has shown no signs of stopping soon. Check them out for some thrashing melodic punk with a youthful twinge.
